Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your website in order to increase your visibility on search engines. Ideally, the optimization of your site will lead you to a better position in the organic search results on websites such as: Google, Yahoo and Bing. Many people are weary of SEO, and understandably so, because many companies over promise and under deliver when it comes to providing legitimate long-term results.
Wondering if your site is search engine optimized? Take this 5 question quiz.
SEO is a marathon and not a sprint. It takes months of on-site and off-site optimization to earn a top 3 ranking on one of the search engines.
The organic results we work hard to earn through SEO are not to be confused with the Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertisements which appear at the top of the big 3 search engines on nearly every search. You can usually spot these advertisements because they’re marked with the word “Ad” or shaded a slightly different colour than the rest of the results.
The truth is, there is no secret sauce. The search engines are constantly updating their algorithms to stop so called “SEO experts” from beating their system. Not to mention, even if you did figure out the precise way to earn those top rankings, you’re still competing for clicks with thousands of other websites in your industry.
My “slow and steady wins the race” approach to SEO has proven to be quite successful for not only myself, but my clients as well. It involves a mix of properly chosen keywords, optimized META tag information, well written content and on-going content marketing.
